One question. How old do you think Jesus was when he first knew that he was the Son of God? We know that he knew this at least when he was twelve, when he was teaching in the temple, and his parents came looking for him, he asked them, "Didn't you know that I had to be in my father's house?" (Luke 2:49) Do you think that he just always knew? I think that Jesus had to learn things just as we did. He had to grow spiritually just like we do. He probably began his relationship with his father very early. Probably soon after he began to understand the scriptures that he heard in the temples, and that his parents passed down to him. Jesus didn't have to have a voice telling him that he was the Son of God. He knew, because he grew up in relationship with God. I could be wrong. We have to remember that Jesus was in heaven with God even before the world began (John 1:1,2). Did he carry this knowledge into the world with his spirit? Here is my theory, but not necessarily the correct answer. God just revealed things to him as he grew in knowledge as we do. He had revelations, just like we did. The thing is, that he was just a whole lot closer to God, and a whole lot soon than we were at twelve. Because of this, he had many more revelations before twelve than we did. Why was he closer to God? He was God, and it was his nature to be obedient to himself. How else can it be explained?

Have you ever lived in a dorm with a demonically possessed fire alarm? I Do. The exorcists are working on it right now. I think that they had already tried to exorcise it before, but either they claimed to and never did, or the demon came back with seven more of it's brothers that are more powerful than it. The times that it likes to express its freedom? At night when everyone is sleeping, showering, using the restrooms, etc. Its ultimate goal? To annoy us into insanity, make us want to go into the girls' dorms even more than we wanted before and be further be tempted into “you know what”, to make us loose more sleep than we intended, and to make all of the freshmen guys into an angry mob slaughtering each other in rage while making our way to destroy anyone’s property who we might think is responsible for the possessed piece of a masterpiece we praise and depend on and like to call “Technology”. I thought Christians were supposed to be in victory over this kind of stuff!

All right, enough of that kidding around (though our fire alarm is being fixed or so they say, at this moment). One phrase:

God Wants More For Us.
.
God - the loving creator of the universe; the one who wants to satisfy our souls; the only one who can fill the void we have in our hearts; the almighty, sovereign, all-knowing, eternal being just waiting to intervene in our lives to bless us if we are only willing to ask and be obedient.
.
Wants - an extreme passionate desire of something that has not been achieved yet.
.
More - an inconceivable amount of blessing(s); An amount surpassing what we already have, suggesting that what we have now is not the best, not enough, and not sufficient enough to please God.
.
For - A preposition that states how the relationship of "More" is to pertain to "us"; The linking word that connects "More" to "Us"; In general, meaning that the blessings (More) are to be to our (Us) benefit.
.
Us - Me, you, and everyone else, even those who don't read this. Mommy, Daddy, Unky, and even Aunty Bertha who pinches your cheeks and gives you a kiss that leaves that embarrassing mark of lipstick on your cheek (and we all know that her lasagna is nasty). Yes even Sadam Hussein, Bin Laden, and even our greatest social enemies.

To Trust In Jesus
5/17/02

Why should I in any other trust
But Jesus Christ the stable rock
Worldly things I now choose to thrust
Though many others may jeer and mock
I will trust in Jesus alone
All worldly things will pass away
Those who trust in them are woen
Why should I let them lead me astray
One day the sun will cease
The dead in Christ will rise
My soul from the grave will Jesus release
But those who didn’t trust in him will meet their demise
Jesus’ love is stable and proven
Thus from there my soul has moven

I have a question for you. In whom or what do you trust? Do you trust the government? Your parents? Your money or the stock market or your broker? Do you trust only in yourself? What about when those things fail? What is going to hold you up when you have no money, when your parents die, what politics go corrupt, or when you are pressed against the wall with no where to go to live? What will happen when you die and what legacy will you leave? Will everything that you've done go to waist, or will it have gone to build in the eternal kingdom?

The Ones Who Sinned
11/6/02

The world is so wrapped in sin
It’s entangled in a snare
It’s caught in a trap

In this world lies rule over truth
There is no justice
Only deception and dissention

Women prostitute themselves to men
The men go in wanting to get layed
They only come out with more emptiness than before

There is corruption in the government
Disorder among the people
The death of the righteous is approved

There is no peace in this world
There is no liberty or freedom
Only the constant return to sin

There is one man though
One man who lived a worthy life
One man who lived as holy

He was not from this world
He was from a land so far from here
This man was an alien

Though superior he was a servant
Though like a God
He did not rule over the world

This man came to die
Not live
He came to give his life

He lived to die
He died to live
This he did for the sinners

He was nailed down for the entangled
Beaten for the dead
He was judged for the unjust
Sentenced to death for the murderers

This man
He was polluted with sin for those who fornicate
Handed to the father of lies for those who act in pretence
Traded for money by corrupt leaders

He died
Crucified on a cross of wood
Bloody nails through his arms and feet
A crown of thorns on his head

Rejoice
This is not the end
As he died human souls were ransomed
Sins were erased
Debts were canceled

Rejoice
On the third day he rose from the dead
On the holy day human lives were rescued from the grave
His ascension into heaven
A foreshadowing of human lives in the resurrection

Who were these human lives
These people whom he saved
They were the ones who killed him
The ones who sinned
This was not another world
The ones who sinned are us

I once heard an anti-Semitic voice, "The Jews should die – they killed Jesus!" I don't quite remember if I responded this way, or if I thought of it later and never said anything to him. What I would say is that we all killed Jesus. Sure the Jews brought the death sentence upon him, but that was going to happen no matter what. The truth is that if we wouldn't have sinned, he wouldn't have died for us. Christians must remember that we are all sinners, and we are only saints by his grace.

Have you ever feasted so deeply in God's presence that you just don't want to leave? That you couldn't imagine being somewhere else? God created an order in the beginning. He appointed us to be the caretakers of the earth, but most importantly, gave us the need and the desire to fellowship with him. He provides us with these opportunities every day. Will we take them?

That Place
11/15/00

In that secret quiet place
In the place where our eyes meet
Where our hands touch
There you open my eyes to see
My ears to hear

I fall in love
I melt in your Holy presence
Humbled I fall to the ground
You pick me up
You take me to a place no one knows of

There we sit in the Garden of Eden
Your beauty so great I could die from it
Yet, I cannot take my eyes from you
We’re two seeds that don’t mix
Yet we are together

Your beauty still draws me closer
I think that if I die
I would be where I wanted to be

Your fire consumes me
I am filled with life
I am clean

I need to go now
I don’t want to
I want to be with you

You tell me you will be with me
I believe you
You say you will lead me to places even more glorious
I believe
I go with your hand in mine

A Carrousel
10/13/00

It twirls around and around
Horses jumping up and down
Children laughing and giggling
Music playing over and over
It never stops

Every once in a while a child falls
The force sends them flying
They die
Others just ignore it
Just as if it had never happened

Some children pick their favorite horse
Others have no choice
They take the ugly ones

It doesn’t matter what horse they get
Their destinations are all the same
Going in circles
They have no choice where to go
They will all die anyway

One day a man was born onto the merry-go-round
He took the least liked hoarse
Its name was Sacrifice and Freedom

The children with the ugly horses loved Him
The children who chose beautiful ones hated Him
He was a Man

So they killed Him
They pushed Him off into the depths of Hell
Along with his horse

Then the music stopped
The merry-go-round ceased turning
The air went dead and silent

For two days the sun did not shine
Nor did the moon glow
Thus made the mourning of stars audible
Children shuddered all around
All lived in darkness

On the third day the Man came back
His horse alive and flying with wings
The music played
The merry-go-round turned
The day grew bright with stars rejoicing

To those who believed in Him
He gave them right to be His children
The right to live forever
He touched them
Their horses came to life with wings

No longer isolated in captivity
They flew away
They soared into the heavens
Free from the merry-go-round
Free

To this day the Man touches lives
He sets them free so they can fly
Away from death
From confusion and captivity
Fly away like a butterfly
.
.
.
.
.
As you can see, this poem is about Jesus and his story. It's also about our story as well. The children are the people of the earth and the man is Jesus. The Carrousel is our daily routines, which cycle with little or subtle variation over our lives. Some of us are born rich, and some of us are born poor, with not as great of a chance at life as others. When Jesus comes most of the poor or ones with visible infirmities flock to him because he might be able to help them. However when most of the prominent people see what the man is doing they kill him. The next part comes from the point in scripture that states that time of Jesus death darkness came over "the land" for about tree hours, and it also signifies the fact that the creator was dead, and that Satan was rejoicing. Not for long! The man is resurrected and he comes and sets people free. They no longer have to stay in their habits of sin or just go through life as a routine. Instead every day can be new, have meaning, and doesn't just have to be ordinary! The best part of all is that God did all this in order to adopt us into his royal family. "Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God - children born not of natural descent, not of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God." (NIV John 1:12-13)

He Heard Us
6/20/01

He heard us in heaven
He heard us on earth

He heard our cries for help
The moaning of our captive spirits
The weeping of our empty souls

He heard them in heaven
He loved us so much
He sent his son to die for us
He died upon the cross

He heard us in Gethsemane
Where he decided there was no other choice
For us he must die

Then
On the cross
His pain unquenchable
Was tempted to save himself
More then once

But he remembered us
He heard our cries
And in his mind
He saw our wallowing
Wallowing in our own sin

He heard us cry
He heard the whole world cry
And he couldn’t stand the pain it caused
He had pity on us
He thought us as sheep without a shepherd

And then
In the power of his infinite might
He drew one last breath and said
It is finished
And then he died

Well the disciples ran away
His mother wept tears
And all on earth was at a loss
But on the third day
He rose to life

He heard us everywhere he went
And that is why he came
He could have destroyed us all
But instead
He chose to suffer

This wasn't my best poem. In fact, it was so poorly written, I wasn't sure if I should put it on the site. I think, however, that the last stanza pretty much sums up Jesus' life, and it sums up the whole poem. The last stanza could have been the poem itself. The purpose of this poem was to lay out the choices that Jesus had, and the decisions that he made. He could have chose to leave us alone. But he made himself one of us. He could have chose to let us pay for our sin, but he paid for us. He could have saved himself and become king, but he became our servant. All in the name of mercy, love, and grace he intervened, and he gave us hope, salvation, and created for us, an alternate destiny… to be like him, perfect, pure, servant-like, and a child of God, the Lord. Let's not take Jesus for granted.
